Download the newest version of Thunderbird from www.mozillamessaging.com/thunderbird Once you’ve installed Thunderbird 3 all that you need to do is enter your Name, Email Address and Password and you will be up and running in minutes. Thunderbird even downloads all your Gmail labels automatically. I highly recommend Thunderbird 3 for anyone that wants a local copy of their Gmail for offline use. I personally use Gmail as my primary personal and business email client. Thunderbird allows me to make a local copy of my Gmail account for both safety and offline use.

Thunderbird is an excellent email client that can do just about everything short of doing your dishes and creating world peace. The world peace add-on is in the works and will be out as soon as the development team can agree on the name.

Ok so what in the world is Thunderbird? Thunderbird is a full featured email client that can easily make you forget that Outlook Express on Windows or Mail on the Mac ever existed. The ability to add features through Thunderbird Add-ons allows you to stay current and have all the flashy features of Outlook and Mail without having to pay extra for the features. Oh yeah, did I mention that this is free Check out the features at the following link.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/features.html

Ok so how does Gmail work with Thunderbird and why are they fine feathered friends? Gmail is an excellent web based email provider that has great support for Thunderbird. The only thing you need to do to get Gmail working in Thunderbird is to enable POP. Go to the following link to enable POP in Gmail and follow the installation instructions. https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=38343&topic=12810

With Mozilla Firefox as web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird for your email and Open Office 3 for your Office suite you only need one more thing….Mozilla Sunbird which will be discussed in a future post.

So now that you know about Thunderbird….don’t just sit there….move your mouse over the following link and click.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Then hit the download button and download and install your new fine feathered email best friend. …. go already.
